An Exemplary Person and Teacher

He was the very Model.... Many of my teachers found my natural exuberance somewhat annoying. Not so Mr. Brand. He was able to channel my ebullience and encourage me to focus on the subject; chemistry. After a few false starts I eventually took up a career in development chemistry which I thoroughly enjoyed. Like a hobby you get well paid for. It is no coincidence he was universally liked and respected...He is the very model! Sincere condolences to all his family. RIP Mr. Brand.

A Caring and Colourful Character

Whilst I don't think I ever enjoyed Michael Brand's teaching at any time, I have very warm memories of him as a great housemaster and an excellent performer in the G&S shows that he was a driving force behind. He brought great humour without being flippant, and a wise eye on all things. He clearly cared greatly for his charges and was the kind of person that you knew you could trust. He knew exactly when to apply a stern word and when to apply a sympathetic ear. And on the few occasions that I met him during reunion occasions at the college, he was a delight to see again - and his memory never failed him for the small details about his former pupils that surprised many of us. He was the essence of a good teacher - very capable and very human.

A wonderful teacher

RIP "Mister Brand". You "turned me on" to the subject which I have loved and which has provided me with a wonderful career. The practical side of chemistry has always been what I have enjoyed most and it all started with you - even if some of your experimental demonstrations didn't always go to plan! I never did get back to Wymondham to thank you in person, but I do so now. Thank you so much.

Truly inspirational teacher

Very sad to hear of Mr Brand's passing. He spent a lot of time and effort to get me through my chemistry "O" level. He set me extra work and marked my efforts regularly. I was destined to FAIL and without his help and guidance would have confirmed his expectations. With his commitment to me I successfully passed, and I heard he did mention me to future students as a shining example of all things are possible if you put in the effort. I remember Terry Marney telling Mr Brand that picking up handfuls of snow and rubbing it in your face, when dressed in gym gear during a very severe snow fall, applied as much to him as it did us students. I think that Mr Brand was as much afraid of Mr Marney as were we. I also performed in HMS Pinafore and Patience with him. I will always remember him with great affection as a truly great and inspirational teacher. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his Wymondham College extended family. Sleep well now Michael, you’ve earned it – God bless

A true gentleman

Michael was my chemistry teacher, housemaster, unwitting mentor and a true gentleman. A genuinely rare character in a school full of characters, his example and support helped me find my way in the World- even though I wasn’t lost. He added a ‘gloss’ to my view of what I could achieve. Through his guidance and support I was better equipped to achieve my early ambitions. He changed my inner monologue and was always a welcoming, optimistic and steady character on the sadly few occasions I met him after leaving Wymondham College. It was a privilege to have been in his house and his classes and I am truly sad to hear of his passing.
